Healthy Metabolism
January issue of SHE magazine features an article, with contributions from several nutritionists, on how to boost your energy levels.
By increasing your metabolic rate you will burn more calories, so if you are trying to lose weight and increase your energy levels it is helpful to increase your metabolic rate.
If you are overweight it does not automatically mean that your metabolism is too slow.
But leading a sedentary lifestyle, yo-yo dieting and snacking in between meals will upset and reduce your metabolism.
Also, starving your body will put it on high alert, upsetting the thyroid gland which controls metabolism.
Men have more lean muscle to trigger the metabolism, so their metabolic rate is greater than that of women. They require more calories and lose weight more easily than women, but do not let this fact upset your diet.
By following a healthy diet, rich in nutrients and by taking regular exercise you will optimise your metabolic rate which will aid your ability to lose weight and maximise your energy levels.
